The purpose of the Belgrade Summit 2009 was to provide a platform to strengthen established democracy and human rights networks and create new pathways for multilateral information exchange and cooperation, both regionally and globally.
The Summit gathered 300 participants from all over the world, including young political leaders, civil society activists and new media activists from the Western Balkans, Eurasia and EU, and institutional representatives from the EU, member states, the EU Presidency (Sweden) and the US, and global civil society representatives.
Belgrade Youth Summit resulted in a Declaration produced by participants. The declaration demands from the governments of the region to implement all the mechanisms of transitional justice and adopted laws, especially those fighting discrimination and protecting vulnerable groups, and to enable a more active participation of youth in public life.
