In memory of Nadia Diuk

Nadia Diuk was a passionate advocate for and scholar on democracy and human rights. She devoted her life to helping civil society in the former communist bloc and beyond. Her contribution to the Third Wave of Democracy is immense. Through her work and leadership at the National Endowment for Democracy, Nadia inspired and assisted thousands of young activists and human rights defenders fighting for justice and freedom.

From a Ukrainian background, Nadia was especially devoted to promoting independence and democratic reform in Ukraine. In recognition of her work, she received the Order of Princess Olga, one of Ukraine’s leading state honors. Although Nadia is no longer with us, her legacy lives on in the many young, passionate activists who share her values and are adamant in their struggles to secure respect for human rights and democratic freedoms worldwide.
